Artist Statement 

because i felt like it

My work asks: how is black female identity constructed? What are its signs, symbols, icons, and archetypes? My practice creates imagined worlds through photography, video, film, sculpture, installation, and performance. I use ‘props’, ‘costumes’, objects, and my body to create new narratives—even fantasies—for
reflection. These worlds are made up of the past and present, but always gesture toward the future.
